Olive // Yellow

Jeans: LEI (similar here). Sweater: Eddie Bauer. Shoes: Sperry. Purse: Michael Kors.

I love the color olive. It's an interesting neutral that can be worn with or without a lot of color. I love this belted jacket (similar here) I wore in the past, but today I wanted to go all olive. I think it's important to keep even your casual outfits interesting and I really love a monochromatic look.

One of my favorite items is a classic pair of Sperry's. They will last you years and over time they mold to your foot. They've proven to be one of the best purchases I've ever made. Check out another look here.

Navy // Nude

Dress: Urban Outfitters (old but similar here). Shoes: Charles by Charles David. Purse: Big Buddha Bags (black and white version here). Ring: Forever 21.
I wore this dress for a night out last weekend. I've had it in my closet forever, but it's been a while since I decided to wear it. Navy is one of those classic colors that never seems to go out of style. I find that it compliments my hair and skintone more than black or brown does. This time, I decided to let the dress play center stage and pair it with a neutral bag and neutral shoes.
I recently picked up this clutch I'm wearing and the matching wallet (check out my instagram account - crystalksherard). I really like the colors and the white trim really pops without being too in your face. Also, if you haven't check out this hair tutorial from Gal Meets Glam - you really should. It gives you the perfect bridgette bardot inspired look.

Peachy Keen

Coat: Vintage. Dress: Forever 21. Sweater: Target. Shoes: Bandolino (similar here).  Tote: Ted Baker. Sunnies: Just Cavalli. Ring: Forever 21

My new favorite color combination is this peachy pink and a soft taupe. It's a combination I really haven't tried in the past and I like the way the pink looks against the neutral hue of taupe. I know I've worn this sweater over and over, but I just can't help it! It's so comfy and seems to go with everything.

Walking Downtown

Shirt: Old (similar one here by Vince). Pants: DKNY. Shoes: Charles by Charles David. Purse: Danielle Nicole. Sunnies: Just Cavalli.
My husband shot these a few nights ago when we were downtown outside of the Shell Building. Houston has so many great areas, but there really is nothing like being downtown in the heart of the city. What I love about going there, is that you can set foot and wind through all the buildings through a tunnel system. I am a huge fan of walking as much as possible and it's much easier to do that downtown than any other area in the city.
On a side note,  I've showcased this shirt before here. I am trying to remix, reuse and recycle through my wardrobe instead of constantly buying new items that I only wear once or twice. What I really like about this top is that it's longer in the back than the front. It's really lightweight and has a sort of tuxedo shirt feel.

Wrap It Up

Dress: Michael Kors. Shoes: Target (old, similar here). Purse: Ted Baker. Necklace: Gifted (love this one!)
Although I've invested in a few handbags (see this post and this post) from Michael Kors, this is the first dress I've purchased from his clothing designs. I have to say, I will be investing in more. This dress does not wrinkle! For someone that's always on the go, I try as much as I can to simplify my life. I decided to keep the accessories simple, but at the same time a statement piece since I wore the dress in a neutral color. I really think this is going to be a classic and timeless piece.

Top: Forever 21. Sweater: Target. Jeans: Target. Purse: Michael Kors. Boots: Very Volatile (last season, Rag and Bone version here).

I wore this outfit last weekend for a casual Saturday. My family and I went to my new favorite restaurant Jus Mac. They only serve mac n' cheese - which happens to be one of my favorite foods. I really like to keep things casual on the weekends since I have to dress up daily for my job.

I wore this tunic with it's matching skirt a few weeks ago here, but wanted to mix it up with my cocoon sweater. This sweater has been on serious repeat sine I bought it last month - see here, here and here.

Coat: Express (old, love this one and this one). Tote: Ted Baker. Shoes: Charles by Charles David.

Wow! It's been so chilly over the past few days I decided to pull out my bright pink dress coat for the last few weeks of Winter. I recently received this purse from Ted Baker for a Christmas Gift and I really love the size of the tote. This one is in a deep purple, but there are a multitude of other colors here. My favorite part is the bow detail on the front in rose gold!

Having the right size bag for work is so important, you want room for your laptop, ipad and notebooks without it looking over stuffed. This shopper is perfect for less than $75 and I know I'll get a tone of use out of it over the summer when traveling.

A Little Bit of Leopard

Shirt: Express (another version here and here). Sweater: Target. Scarf: Random (similar here). Pumps: Charles by Charles David. Purse: Michael Kors. Sunnies: Just Cavalli.

I've really strived since the year began to incorporate more neutral outfits into my wardrobe (see previous posts here, here and here). I've always been one to love a bold color and lots of sparkle, but as the years go by I've decided I need to tone a few things down and stick to the classics. A big comfy taupe sweater is the perfect addition to any closet. This one was picked up very inexpensively, but I've worn over and over the past few weeks. I really want to invest in a Cuyana sweater - check it out here. They are all about buying less and finding items you absolutely love.  You can't go wrong with a leopard accessories either. This scarf still stays in the neutral family, but adds interest to an otherwise simple outfit. Finally, I added a yellow satchel for a little pop of color.

I can't believe Spring Break is two weeks away! I'm not sure where we are going yet, but I bet it will involve the beach. As the warmer weather approaches, I thought I'd put together an inspiration board of some of my current favorites for beachy weather. This board is inspired by a vintage print of Barbie. I rounded up several items that reminded me of the image above. Don't you just love those sunglasses? Everything on the board is less than $150 and that Kate Spade tote is less than $20.

One of my favorite items is the lace joggers. They are going to be something I add this year for lounging around and as a coverup for the beach. Not to mention that scarf is called "Bucket list" - how fun is that?

Top: Forever21 (love this one and this one). Pants: Nicole Miller. Shoes: Vintage (similar here). Tote: Ted Baker.
I love to wear sparkly things to work. The key is to add structured, classic accessories and tone down the jewelry. Sequins are such a great day to night item to wear and with a looser fitting tunic like this one, it's comfortable while maintaining a polished look.
I don't wear pants to work often, since I am constantly switching from flats to heels - but I love a pair of classic black pants. For work, you always want them to fit a little looser than you might wear for jeans or even a Friday night out. Check out more of my day to night sequin looks here, here and here.

First Signs of Spring

Jacket: Kenneth Cole Reaction (similar here). Shirt: Kensie (old). Purse: Michael Kors. Boots: Olive Street. Pants: DKNY. Sunnies: Just Cavalli.
Spring is my absolute favorite time of year in Texas. Although we have horrible hot summers, our Springtime is cool and blooming with flowers. I wore this outfit last weekend for errand running on Saturday. These boots have been in full rotation lately (seen here and here), and I'm loving the way they look with layers of clothing.
Originally, I was afraid of buying a pair of over the knee boots, for fear I wouldn't be tall enough and they would look funny on me. However, after making the plunge, I realized that if they are worn with the right outfit, they can really make your legs look longer. I'm currently scouring sales for a pair of high heeled over-the-knee boots. This is the best time of year to load up on next season's staples.

In My Beauty Bag

Crystal JacksonComment

Beauty is a topic I think every girl looks at in some form or fashion. Maybe you are one of those minimalists, who dabble moisturizer on in the mornings and are set for the day. Maybe you are one of those who love color and get all decked out. Well, I am somewhere in between. I like a more natural look most days, but am not afraid of a bold red lip. I've put together a few recommendations for what's in my makeup bag right now.

Josie Moran "Argan Oil" - some of the best moisturizer I've ever used. I put it on in the mornings and evenings after using her argan oil cleanser and daily moisturizer. Buy the entire set here. It can be used for your hair and cuticles.

Luxie Brush 504 "Large Angled" and Model Cosmetics "Blush Cheek Powder" in Cosmopolitan - I actually just signed up for IPSY, which is a beauty subscription service that sends you new products every month for $10. This blush gives a pinched cheek look that goes great with a natural eye.

Rimmel's "Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation" and (not pictured, but I use with it)  Rimmel's "Stay Matte Longlasting Pressed Powder" - I am all about foundation that's easy to find, has a great finish and lasts all day. This combination is great for full coverage.

Sephora's "Waterproof Gel Eyeliner" in Rio Nights - I love the deep black dotted along the upper lashline of this waterproof eyeliner. You can smudge it or wear it as striking eyeliner.

Sephora's Travel Brushes - These fit great into the purse and come with a perfect carrying case. They also have the softest bristles.

Limecrime"Velveteen Lip Color" in Suedeberry - I've been on the same tube since August and wear this color multiple times a week.

Cargo Cosmetics "LipGloss" in Anguilla - this is the perfect soft color (also received in my Ipsy bag this month).

Lollia's "Sugar Pastille" in Wish - Soft, floral and great day for night.

Wow! I am so excited about Spring here in Texas. We have the hottest summers, so Springtime is really a better season for us to be outside. I love the new flounce swimsuit tops like this one here. They are so flattering on someone who is a little fuller in the bust. I think this top would be perfect with a maxi skirt for evening dinner or drinks. This post is a conglomerate of several items I've had for a while, so I did my best to give you links above for similar sizes and shapes.
With Spring Break right around the corner, I am on a mission to cleanse and workout for the next three weeks to be a happier (and healthier) beach bum. I think it's important to stay active, eat lots of fruit and vegetables and find time to relax -- which is much easier said than done. Do you have an tips or tricks for gearing up for bikini season?

Shirt: Random (gingham version here). Jeans: No longer available (similar here). Tote: Danielle Nicole. Shoes: Bandolino. Hat: Target. Sunnies: Just Cavalli. Earrings: Random (similar here).
Today's post is a more casual look for me. I spend a lot of my time in business attire or out and about in evening wear, it's less likely for me to have a post with jeans. I've been striving over the past few months to wear more casual outfits and incorporate pants into my wardrobe. I am one of those gals who loves to wear dresses! They are easier to change from pumps to flats depending on the activities that day. Since we are having a transitional season right now, I thought it would be perfect to wear my black felt hat with cap toe pumps for a little structure to an otherwise simple outfit.
This bag is the perfect size for work and play. It's big enough to carry a laptop in it (plus for work!), but not so big that you can't wear it for everyday shopping, travel, etc. I love the two tone color of the tote and how it plays off the two toned pumps featured here. Both items are very neutral, but not boring. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Black Nights

Crochet is one of those amazing materials that show craftsmanship and attention to detail. Although it's usually reserved for summertime, I love how fancy this black dress looks. I've worn it before with casual flats and a bright purse here, but wanted to showcase an evening version. It's funny how a simple change of shoes or a purse can make the difference from day to night.

Shirt: Vintage (also love this one). Skirt: DIY (great tutorial for a similar one here). Shoes: Charles by Charles David. Purse: Buddha Bags. Sunnies: Just Cavalli.

Have you ever had a DIY project that just turned out perfect?  This skirt was one of those projects for me. I've worn it in several occasions, including here. But, this monochromatic look really does it justice. In my effort this year to wear more neutrals, the texture is what sets this outfit apart. The metallic sheen on the top with the soft tulle makes this such a glamorous outfit. I actually made this skirt by cutting off the top of a dress and turning down the waste band, however A Pair and a Spare has a great tutorial listed in the links above. She has some of the best DIY tutorials on the web with excellent directions and clean looking pictures. I also highly recommend her book!

The White Stripe

Shirt: Target. Sweater: Old (similar here). Skirt: Karen Kane. Shoes: Vintage. Purse: Danielle Nicole. Sunglasses: Just Cavalli.
There's something about this one today that reminded me of The White Stripes video for Seven Nation Army. They are one of my all time favorite bands. They are retro and modern at the same time. I love that they've chosen a color scheme for their every day life which is red, black and white. It's classic!
Lately, I've been wearing the same color scheme and found this great wall near my place. Usually I wouldn't opt for a red shirt against a red backdrop, but today it just worked.

Happy Friday! This weekend is going to be all about time with my husband. We are spending the weekend away to relax and catch up. Life gets so hectic with jobs, kids and everything else that it's good to step back and have real alone time together.

This outfit is what I would call casual work. The blazer adds structure to an otherwise relaxed silouette. Also the sleeves of the jacket have tiny pink polka dots which looks amazing with the bigger dots on the top. Top it off with caged heels and a satchel for a perfect Friday outfit.

One of the things I hope viewers get out of my blog is finding inspiration with affordable items. There are a ton of really successful bloggers out there (many in which I follow), but I want the tone of my blog to feel like real life. I tend to spend more of my money in items like shoes or purses instead of buying a $200 shirt, because it gives me more versatility in my wardrobe.
The other thing I really try to incorporate is DIY projects. There are so many easy tutorials on the internet that it's almost silly to buy every single item yourself. Plus, when a DIY turns out great - you have the pleasure of saying when complimented, "Thanks, I made it myself!" It's definitely a confidence booster.  Today I decided to go with something super simple for the office, a cowl neck sweater looks great with a circle skirt. I absolutely love color blocking and anything monochromatic. It really allows anyone short or petite to appear taller.

Keeping the color scheme fun today with a little bit of yellow. Usually, I would opt for a yellow bag to go with this cardigan, but I'm trying to tone down my wardrobe with more neutrals. This outfit would be just as cute with a pale pink cardigan for valentine's day festivities.

What are you planning to wear this weekend?
