Dress: Urban Outfitters (old but similar here). Shoes: Charles by Charles David. Purse: Big Buddha Bags (black and white version here). Ring: Forever 21.

I wore this dress for a night out last weekend. I've had it in my closet forever, but it's been a while since I decided to wear it. Navy is one of those classic colors that never seems to go out of style. I find that it compliments my hair and skintone more than black or brown does. This time, I decided to let the dress play center stage and pair it with a neutral bag and neutral shoes.

I recently picked up this clutch I'm wearing and the matching wallet (check out my instagram account - crystalksherard). I really like the colors and the white trim really pops without being too in your face. Also, if you haven't check out this hair tutorial from Gal Meets Glam - you really should. It gives you the perfect bridgette bardot inspired look.

A Little Bit of Leopard

Shirt: Express (another version here and here). Sweater: Target. Scarf: Random (similar here). Pumps: Charles by Charles David. Purse: Michael Kors. Sunnies: Just Cavalli.

I've really strived since the year began to incorporate more neutral outfits into my wardrobe (see previous posts here, here and here). I've always been one to love a bold color and lots of sparkle, but as the years go by I've decided I need to tone a few things down and stick to the classics. A big comfy taupe sweater is the perfect addition to any closet. This one was picked up very inexpensively, but I've worn over and over the past few weeks. I really want to invest in a Cuyana sweater - check it out here. They are all about buying less and finding items you absolutely love.  You can't go wrong with a leopard accessories either. This scarf still stays in the neutral family, but adds interest to an otherwise simple outfit. Finally, I added a yellow satchel for a little pop of color.

Shirt: Vintage (also love this one). Skirt: DIY (great tutorial for a similar one here). Shoes: Charles by Charles David. Purse: Buddha Bags. Sunnies: Just Cavalli.

Have you ever had a DIY project that just turned out perfect?  This skirt was one of those projects for me. I've worn it in several occasions, including here. But, this monochromatic look really does it justice. In my effort this year to wear more neutrals, the texture is what sets this outfit apart. The metallic sheen on the top with the soft tulle makes this such a glamorous outfit. I actually made this skirt by cutting off the top of a dress and turning down the waste band, however A Pair and a Spare has a great tutorial listed in the links above. She has some of the best DIY tutorials on the web with excellent directions and clean looking pictures. I also highly recommend her book!
