DIY: Lace Up Ballet Flats

I love to draw inspiration from all sorts of place. Being that I grew up studying ballet, I love a good ballet inspired outfit or project. With all of these lace up shoes plastered on every blog and Pinterest board... I decided to take matters into my own hands and create a good DIY project. The best part is that it took about 30 minutes to make these guys and $10 in materials.

What You Need:

  1. Awl
  2. Parachute Cord
  3. Canvas flats
  4. Chalk
  5. A lighter

Using the chalk, mark 5 dots starting at the top center, then two on each side working your way halfway down. Each dot should be about 1/4" from the edge of the shoe.

Take your awl (which is used for making belt holes) and push it through the fabric. You may have to take a few minutes and work it slowly through. You will have a total of 5 holes.

Now you are going to starting threading your parachute cord through each hole. I started by knotted at the top and then weaving zig-zag through the holes.

Sear the ends of the cords with your lighter so they don't fray!

Tie it up ballet style and ta da!!! All done in about 30 minutes. Easy peasy! You'll have a brand new pair of shoes and mine with materials cost about $10.
