You may notice I’m on a velvet kick if you follow along on Instagram. I’ve been trying so hard to dress like Fall but we’ve only had one or two cooler days so far. I found this adorable navy crushed velvet wrap dress last year and never made it around to getting a photograph of it. Velvet (mentioned here about it’s history in a post from last week) is a luxurious fabric dating pretty far back. It’s made differently that other fabrics which is why it’s thicker and softer. It’s such a flattering fabric too! If you buy thicker velvet it can hide all sorts of bumps and imperfections or if you are looking for a flowy style like this dress go for a crushed velvet.
I’ve recently fallen in love with the flutter sleeve. I don’t think I’ve owned much of this shape in the past and it’s also a really flattering shape. It’s lose and forgiving with just a touch of being feminine. I found a few versions that are similar for you guys some on the higher price point and then a few that are under $20 like this one and this one. I also found this beautiful rose colored one and burgundy one, too! Really all of the in the round up at the bottom of this post are so pretty and great for now and into the holidays!
I paired it with a beautiful pair of velvet mary janes I also picked up last Fall. I found an almost identical version here (they are under $70) and this pair is similar (and under $50) with a higher heel. They add just the right amount of girly without being too youthful. For accessories I’ve been trying to incorporate a variety of scarves my grandmother passed down to me into my everyday wardrobe. A silk scarf is such a staple in any closet because it’s so versatile. I’ve worn this one tied around the same Ted Baker purse I’m sharing here (newer version here and under $45 version here!) and in my hair around a braid. You really can’t go wrong with picking out a floral scarf and the soft pink lightens the navy blue of the dress here.
The entire ensemble is a perfect date or girls night out outfit and was really comfortable to wear all day. It can even pass for brunch in which I wore it to go to the cutest pink bakery here in Cypress right outside of Houston called Galiana’s. I’ve wanted to try this place for so long and just never made it over there (keep in mind it’s only 2 miles from my house - lol). It was not a disappointment. They served me the most delicious almond cappuccino which required no sugar and a delicious kale salad. I couldn’t get enough. They also have a pretty stellar breakfast and it was all around a place I will be coming back to! You can join them for coffee, breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or wine.
Tonight’s plans include (weather permitting) a really fun exhibit downtown called moonGarden where there 11 shadow features of the children’s story “Goodnight Moon.” I’m taking my daughter to go see it but there will be free milk and cookies and you can come in your pj’s! Count me in on that one. Any excuse to wear a good pair of jammies is welcome by me! There will be celebrities reading the book in multiple languages and telescopes available to for free for stargazing. Come join from 7pm-9pm if you are in the Houston area. If you can’t make it tonight, no worries! It’s open all weekend. It’s one of the items on my Fall bucket list (which you can get a copy of here) and I can’t wait to cross it off!
