Three Heel Clicks - TREND TO WATCH: SNEAKERS AND A SWEATER DRESS

Just like the changing of the seasons, so has my wardrobe shifted for the move we made from Houston to Los Angeles. I noticed since I’ve been out here in California that sneakers are a shoe I just had to figure out how to incorporate into my feminine dressy wardrobe. Sneakers are one of those shoe styles I reserve mostly for long walks and work outs. I rarely wear them outside of doing something athletic… until now. After a few months of being on the West Coast I realize sneakers are almost a staple as opposed to an option. On a daily basis without making any sort of effort, I’m walking 3-4 miles. Also, parking is a nightmare here so even if I can drive somewhere I will spend 15 minutes finding parking and then walking to wherever my final destination is located.

There is also tons of concrete here so it’s important to find a shoe that has comfort and support. These platform sneakers are quickly making it to a start player in my wardrobe. They pretty much pair with anything and they have a little height which aides in my short stature. I love how easy they are to throw on with one of Fall’s favorite sweater dresses like this one on sale for $35!

Another really easy update to almost any outfit is to add a hair accessory! I have been constantly finding new outfits to wear barrettes, headbands, bows and even a scrunchie lately! For today’s look I used a wool plaid belt from a dress as a hair bow. You can use scarves or ribbons you already have on hand! For my bag I stuck to a classic Michael Kors with a gold chain to keep the look modern yet timeless. I can definitely see myself wearing this exact outfit in years to come!

Brunch in Beverly Hills

I’m acclimating a little more every day in Los Angeles. If you had asked me last year where I’d be living this year you would NOT have hear LA come out of my mouth. However, I guess I was meant to land in the city of angels for the next period of my life and truthfully I’m not complaining. There have been a few adjustments like the fact that people don’t look you in the eye when you walk down the street nor say “Howdy” to a passerby. There’s also a lack of public restrooms and streets with over four lanes. However, you can’t really beat the weather, sunsets or variety here. After living in Houston for the past 11 years the transition to Los Angeles has been a welcomed change from the intense heat of Texas.

So let’s talk brunch now. Since arriving in LA we’ve sought to get to know different neighborhoods. Last weekend we headed to Beverly Hills to window shop, people watch and of course, brunch. We stopped at The Farm of Beverly Hills which is right smack dab in the center of every amazing shop! You can park in a garage across the street and be to the restaurant in no time. It was complete with a farm to table menu, fantastic coffee and a quaint patio with some of my favorite flooring: hexagonal tile. The aesthetic is humble and modern with relaxed vibes.

I decided that afternoon to wear a mustard and cream linen polka dot dress with sweet suede ankle booties and my leather chain strap crossbody that’s been on major repeat for the past two months. The bag just seems to go with everything and I can’t seem to stop myself from letting it wind it’s way into most outfits. Anyhow, pick up one here that’s similar since I don’t think this one is still in stock. Linen is one of my favorite fabrics and I have zero intention of letting it go any time soon. Instead I’m wearing many of my summer dresses with Fall shoes and accessories this season.

Shopping On Melrose Avenue

Three Heel Clicks - Shopping On Melrose Avenue

Last weekend, after a terrifying incident involving me getting trapped in an elevator sans cell phone, I decided it was time for a little retail therapy. So I threw on a the softest sage green midi dress (you can check out several options similar here) with a vintage woven belt and embroidered mules to shop until my little heart was content! Like I mentioned in last weeks Five Must Haves for LA… a shopping tote was also brought along to hold onto my sweater and any goodies I came across.

Comfortable walking shoes are a must when shopping. I like ones that easily slip on and off so I can try on shoes or take them off if they distract from a dress I’m looking at. These neutral loafer like mules are polished looking and underwhelming due to their nude shade. I also liked how they matched my skin tone! That allowed my leg to look longer instead of squatty.

One of the cool things about LA is that it’s fashion forward with tons of street style! Melrose Avenue is filled with individual designers and stores with a gritty flair. You can pretty much get away with most styles here as long as you go all out. There’s also an awesome flea market held every Sunday called Melrose Trading Post. It’s HUGE! Filled with food trucks, live music and just about every vendor you can imagine! It’s also a fabulous place to score vintage jackets, hats and accessories!

After a few hours of grazing on snacks and filling our shopping totes we decided to head to the nail salon and treat ourselves to some mani and pedi oblivion. On the way we stopped at Lemonade of Beverly for a cup of fresh squeezed lemonade! Try the strawberry rosemary or lavender infused drinks for the most refreshing glass of lemonade.

Gettin’ Cozy at Home Wearing a Fall Jumpsuit

Fashion, Petite Style, StyleCrystal Jackson

Cozy soft jumpsuits are something I gravitate towards during the cooler months. They are easy to grab and go or comfortable to just lounge in around the house. I’ve been down in LA for the past few days and although very inspired by Fall colors and decor, it’s 75-90 degrees. Not really conducive to things like scarves and boots! One of the ways I transition out of the bright summer colors is by picking up a few things in fall ones! Mustard yellow and soft olive green are on the top of my lists this year!

Jumpsuits are sometimes a little tricky to wear. I found the ones with a tapered ankle and cinched waist seem to look best on my curvy petite frame. If you are taller you may want to consider a cropped leg and longer torso. Your best bet is try it on before committing. Stores like Amazon and Nordstrom have easy to return exchange while giving you the comfort of trying things on at home.

When you are accessorizing a casual jumpsuit grab a flat pointy pair of flats or tapered ballet flats. You can also pair this with a cute pair of pointy pumps for a night out. Then, add earrings! You can also add a pretty clutch or crossbody. There are so many cute jumpsuits to choose from right now in a variety of pumpkin, Burgundy and golds that will give you all of the Fall feels!

Scenes Around Long Beach

Three Heel Clicks - Scenes Around Long Beach

We ended up making an unexpected business trip down to Long Beach, California. I thought I’d be gone a few days, but the trip was extended and I can’t complain. Out of all of the cities I’ve visited in California, Long Beach is the one I’m the most drawn to as of yet! With a laid back vibe, vintage and coffee shops all over and easy access to the beach it’s hard to beat! I’ll be posting a few more posts about this little city, but I figured today would be fun to share a few photos of the first scenes I saw around Long Beach.

We decided to start on East Ocean Blvd which is such a prime location. Typically, if we are going to be staying more than two nights we rent a home. Since there was a group of us, we found a place last minute with a deep discount! It was literally across the street from the beach and a few blocks from Broadway Street which has a lot to do. The location allowed me to rise and walk to a coffee shop to work out of each morning. One of my favorite coffee spots was The Library Coffeehouse. For anyone who has been to College Station, this place was really similar to Sweet Eugene’s!

One afternoon I walked about a mile and a half down to Chuck’s Coffee Shop which is more of a diner built back in the 60’s and then across the street to the pier. There are a ton of retail shops and restaurants in this area if you are looking to go shopping for the day! Half of the trip I decided to use Lime’s scooters which was perfect for transportation within 5 miles.

The weather was pretty ideal the entire time I’ve been here! I wore a lightweight sweater paired with shorts and pair of ballet flats. During the afternoon it is pretty warm and then cooler in the evening. I recommend bringing a backpack or tote with you no matter where you go. Long Beach is a great walking city with so much to do and I found the days I brought my own large bag made it so much easier to scoot back to the house.

Another thing I HIGHLY recommend to have is sunscreen! I made the mistake of forgetting to put on my SPF Veil and ended up pretty red after a few hours of walking around. I wear our SPF Veil daily since it’s made to wear under makeup! It’s been the best change I’ve made to my skincare regimen in years! It’s really lightweight and doesn’t break out my sensitive and reactive skin. The sky is so clear here with little shade during the heat of the day so bring your SPF!
