The Perfect Yellow Wrap Skirt for Spring

Three Heel Clicks - The Perfect Yellow Wrap Skirt for Spring (6).jpg

Yellow is one of the happiest colors you can wear and starts showing up in nature about this time of year. From bright daffodils to sunny shades of marigold this color literally starts popping up everywhere as snow fades and spring blooms open. Yellow is a staple color in my wardrobe just like blush and navy. I probably wear it more often than any other color during the warmer months of the year. Whenever I’m searching for an outfit to elevate my mood, yellow is where I turn to achieve that experience.

You may recognize this skirt from Instagram last week when I wore it in blush. It’s under $30 so of course I bought it in two colors. When you find something you love, get it in multiples. You will not regret that choice. The skirt has so much drama and flair and love how you can dress it up or dress it down. I wore it with a tank top when I was at the beach, but switched to a button down and white booties when we arrived in Sacramento. It’s a little cooler here than in the South so I could get away with a pop of white booties.

Also right now, you will find tortoise shell accessories are all the rage. I’m loving how neutrals are in right now. I’m wearing tortoise earrings here along with a leather watchband for my apple watch and a vintage leather Coach purse. It never hurts to have a few neutral accessories on hand to go with brighter colors like yellow. I personally think yellow pairs beautifully with warm shades of tans, camels and browns for Spring.

Home Sweet Heel Clicks: How to Decorate a Small Patio

Three Heel Clicks - How to Decorate a Small Patio (1).jpg

Small spaces are so much fun to decorate! The key to making them feel warm and inviting without being to busy is to establish a usable design, decorate in an established color scheme, and then add touches that bring you joy. Make it a space where you can lounge and read a book or entertain guests. Whether you have 50 square feet or 1,000 square feet to work with you can make any space special.

Decide how to use the space

Since I live in an apartment I’m limited on my private outdoor space. I knew I already had privacy since my patio is on a higher level surrounded by trees so I focused on making the space a place to have a drink, cup of coffee, relax and converse. It’s really hot here in Houston so I decided a fan was important for air circulation when the breeze isn’t blowing. Also, since I knew I’d have company from time to time I wanted to make sure there were things like end tables and a trash can to keep clutter at bay. If you are using your patio for more of an outdoor bedroom consider a sectional, close container for books or magazines, and maybe a hammock. Anytime you decide to decorate a space consider the purpose first and then aesthetics.

Pick a color scheme

Design a color scheme around a palette that makes you relaxed. For me, I knew I wanted to use palm prints throughout the space so green was a staple color. I love light pinks and used them throughout my entire apartment so naturally I added pink as well. I suggest starting with an item you love or print you love and building your scheme around those colors. Maybe it’s a piece of art you love or maybe it’s a rug. Start with what makes you happy and then choose three colors to look for decor items.

Find your main pieces

For my space, I knew I wanted a few chairs that you could lounge and read in. In fact, these chairs were the main pieces for the space. I refused to purchase anything until I found the right chairs. I ended up going with a plastic material in this vibrant green. From there, I went ahead and picked up a palm printed rug. If you have room for a sectional or couch I would go ahead and purchase those first. Maybe you want a beautiful light fixture and that’s the piece to build everything else around. Whatever you choose for your main pieces think of them as a foundation. In the future if you want to make a change then you can swap out accessories but keep those main pieces.

Add accessories that bring you joy

Accessories are like the jewelry in a space. They add the finishing touches but you need to be careful and make sure the space is easy to clean and not cluttered. My patio is about 5 feet by 12 feet. Not a ton of space so clutter can really make it a mess. I used wall decor and hanging accessories to make the space feel decorated and streamlined. Then, add things like plant life (real or fake) and maybe a printed tray or a few fun things like this pink pineapple. The key is to look for items that bring you joy in the selected color scheme. Also, add some throw pillows for comfort or an end table that transitions into a stool for extra seating.

For today’s look I decided to bring out this beautiful Mara Hoffman dress. If you are petite, this dress is perfect because it wraps so beautifully around the waist and is short enough to wear flats if you’d like. I added a pretty floral crown and pretty heels for a perfect resort look or even just cocktails on the patio. You can shop the entire look below!

Houston Hotspots: The Whimsy World Part 3

Three Heel Clicks - Houston Hotspots - The Whimsy World Part 3 (9).jpg

Being an art lover and painter myself I was incredibly inspired by Shelbi Nicole’s colorful exhibit on display at The Art District Gallery right outside of downtown Houston. Painting, drawing and creating has been a part of me since I can remember. I’m constantly on the hunt for murals around the city (and world) to share with you all as a background for fashion looks. This is the third and final post on The Whimsy World (read part 1 and part 2 for more information and other parts of this exhibit). Note:; The exhibit is on display through the end of this month so if you want to attend you need to get tickets ASAP (you can do so here).

I mentioned in a previous post about the Beyonce inspired bathroom. I had to share this mirror selfie with the words “I woke up like this” for you all. Every inch of the space is covered in art around the exhibit including the bathroom/dressing room. If you are an influencer, photographer or blogger this is a perfect place for a quick outfit change! The walls are lined in black and white wallpaper complete with images of Beyonce. What a special touch! So often, bathrooms and dressing areas are overlooked within spaces whether it be an exhibit or even a restaurant bathroom. Well, look no further! This bathroom is full of glamour inspired images and quotes that will surely inspire a feeling of fabulous as soon as you walk in.

My only regret was not making it to the exhibit before Valentine’s Day to share today’s post with you. However, the outfit I have on today is an easy one to recreate. I wore a simple split flutter sleeve dress from Cotton On (an staple brand in my closet). The dress is made out of a jersey knit and looks great dressed up or down. I found this version with longer sleeves on sale for $60 if you are in the market for a cute red dress.Y ou can swap out the heels for a pair of ballet flats for a casual look. Although I cannot find this one online (even though it was purchased last month) I have rounded up a few more options for you guys in the Shop the Post feature located above and at the bottom of today’s post.

Since this is an art exhibit I felt a beret was the only appropriate hat choice. Berets immediately rouse a french feeling and are more versatile than you may think. You can see a few other beret inspired looks here, here and here - dressed up for the office, dressed down to play or just a simple weekend look. To keep my outfit from looking to holiday like I added white accessories to transition from Winter to Spring. White pumps, earrings and bags are also staples in my closet. When you add white to a bold color like red, pink or blue it helps the colors really pop! Don’t put those red items away yet! You can easily wear them all Spring and Summer long if you pair them with lighter colors.

What is your favorite way to wear red in the Spring?

Houston Hotspots: Whiskey Cake Kitchen

Three Heel Clicks - Houston Hotspots - Whiskey Cakes (7).jpg

Last weekend I featured a new restaurant with healthy, delicious cuisine in this post - Houston Hotspot: Dish Society. While I love to eat a plant based diet, sometimes I get a craving for hearty savory foods and that brings me to today’s post on Whiskey Cake. Whiskey Cake Kitchen is a restaurant here in Houston with delicious made from scratch and locally sourced foods. They have a rustic atmosphere serving simple farm fresh foods with flavors that will quench anyone’s palette.

Start off with the goat cheese fondue if you don’t make it anywhere past an appetizer and cocktails. It’s to die for good! It’s pictured above and served with delicious slices of toasted bread. Be careful though, if you are splitting between just two people you may get full before dinner. We like to box up half of it for a midnight snack later on so we still have room for dinner.

From their cozy gathering spaces to the bathroom which is picture perfect and featured here (sorry not sorry for the selfies - haha!) the entire space is rustic, detailed and makes you want to curl up with a hot toddy or cup of coffee. I ordered their beet and goat cheese salad which was HUGE and I couldn’t even finish it.

Whiskey Cake also has a HUGE wine selection. Give me all of the delicious wine available! They make handcrafted cocktails with unique flavors you don’t see everyday. The presentation of each cocktail is an art in itself. They also hand make all of their cocktails. It’s a busy spot in Katy, TX on weekends so grabbing a drink at the bar before dinners is a perfect prelude for your meal while you wait.. Also if at bare minimum you order their Whiskey Cake dessert to go you MUST try their signature dessert. I mean, after all they did name the restaurant after this southern style dish,

I wore this Michael Kors blouse with grommet details on the shoulder. Although I rarely dress in all black, I do have a few staple pieces and this blouse is one of them! It’s on sale right now and is perfect tucked into skinny jeans. Instead of flats I added a pair of Marc Fisher black wedges. You can also wear a block heel and this pair is really similar to the ones I’m sporting today. They gift the illusion of a pointy pump but are more comfortable and easy to walk in. Add a rose printed bag - last seen in this post and this post for a little bit of red.
