Three Heel Clicks - Houston Hotspots - Becker's Books (8).jpg

It’s not everyday that you randomly stumble upon a true gem like Becker’s Books. After spending the past few years hunting for an old copy of Little Women, I was at another local bookstore here in Houston and they recommended I check out Becker’s Books. It was a Tuesday and Becker’s wasn’t open until the next day so I made it a point to drive over the following day to see exactly what the fuss was all about. I was speechless (a VERY difficult thing for me) when I entered the old home now converted into a bookstore.

This place is a dream for any bookworm. You may remember earlier this month my post on Gifting the Joy of Reading where I showcased a few of my Becker’s Books finds including my coveted copy of Little Women and a copy of Emerson’s Essays. As soon as I walked in I was immediately transported to another place in time. It truly felt like I jumped into the library scene of Beauty and the Beast.

On Monday night they hosted a holiday party where a delicious spread including homemade recipes all for who wanted to stop by. I brought along my daughter who was obsessed with the kids section and we both picked up a few new things to read. Since we are headed on an upcoming road trip I thought a few new reads were in perfect order. I was impressed with how many books were in the collection from my own childhood like Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet and Sweet Valley Twins series.

The bookstore has over 150,000 books and they also have a warehouse. You could easily spend a whole weekend pouring over the beautiful spines and sifting through titles. Since it was a Monday night, I wore a simple navy tank, coral cardigan and skinny jeans. I added a pair of sparkly flats and a bright coral red bucket bag for a laid back but pulled together look. When I’m in question of what to wear to a casual event I almost always reach for a cardigan and flats! Comfortable, but polished and I love the way the pops of bright hues can make the outfit special. I added a simple coral pendant (this one was gifted but here’s a similar one!) to tie it all together.

What are your favorite local places to go? I’m constantly traveling and on the search for new hidden gems!
