The second thing I am sharing this week includes all things Back to School! Don't forget tax free weekend is coming up and you DON'T want to miss these seasonal sales!

Before we dive into Fall content and topics this week, I wanted to make sure I still covered some sweet Summer style. Today's outfit was actually done for a campaign for Coca-cola. These were the outtakes and I figured sharing this look would be pretty inspiring! One of the things I strive to make sure I practice is enjoying the current season instead of rushing into the next one before it starts. Don't get me wrong, I usually take an inventory for my Fall wardrobe needs about this time of year, but it's too soon for me to actually wear a blazer or sweaters.

This entire outfit was found on Amazon. There was a time before Amazon Prime where I found it really difficult to find things that fit properly on Amazon. Many times I ordered something 3rd party only to find issues getting it delivered timely or sizing properly. Not so much now! I learned to read the reviews, the ratings, only shop Amazon Prime for free shipping and accurate package tracking.

Let's talk about how to build this outfit. When I'm assembling a look I usually start with a color scheme and a focal point. This beautiful skirt can easily be dressed up with pumps and a button down blouse for a meeting or you can pair it with a lace trimmed top and suede slides. The feminine print with pops of red flowers make this skirt have a unique appeal. It's part feminine, part 50's inspired and very classic. It's a shape that flatters most body types and never goes out of style. All wins in my book!

MOODSTRUCK SPLASH Liquid Lipstick - True Crimson.jpg

Beauty Tip: Add a matte liquid lip color to match your outfit

A bright colored lipstick can give any look a little punch! I prefer to use a matte liquid lip during the day when I’m adding color to my make up look. We think an outfit is just clothes, but many times it’s hair and makeup that give an outfit a unique look! MOODSTRUCK SPLASH liquid lipstick in Sizzling is a true crimson color that dries to a soft finish and made to wear all day long. You can grab a tube here or bundle three of them for a deeper discount!

I love to wear a great pair of heels but comfort always takes priority these days. These suede slides are from one of my favorite new found brands The Royal Standard. If you follow along on Instagram you'll see me wearing these pretty much all Summer long. The soft suede like material make them blister proof! One of the reasons I find myself reaching for them again and again is that they are neutral, elongate my short 5'0 tall frame and easily pack. If I'm wearing heels, I oftentimes throw these into my purse for a quick change if my legs start to hurt. Beauty does not have to equal pain and there are so many options for shoes with support, memory foam and comfort!

This skirt will easily transition to Fall but for this hot Summer day a bright cherry tomato red hue is the perfect companion to a bottle of Coca-cola. I'll be honest, I don't drink sodas on a regular basis. However, every now and then I'll reach for an old favorite like a classic Coca-cola in a glass bottle. I prefer glass bottles to plastic for environmental and recycling purposes. I also prefer them due to the toxins that seep out of plastic. I've been looking into buying a refillable glass water bottle to use daily and would really like a recommendation!

Three Heel Clicks - Spending Time on My Purpose (17).jpg

This is the first blog post I’ve written in weeks and feel like the break from everyday life was exactly what my spirit needed. At the beginning of this year I wrote the following on my mirror in pink lipstick:

  • Simplicity

  • Discernment

  • Purpose.

I’ve prayed over these three words and back in March I felt compelled to spend time alone addressing underlying parts of my soul. If you are one who has come to a point in life where you are seeking the deeper part of your soul, I can relate. I felt an overwhelming desire for discernment and purpose in my life. For months I battled with an internal struggle and what I would call spiritual warfare. My soul was literally battling with purpose on a daily basis. I decided at the beginning of April it was time to schedule free time (a contradiction in itself - haha!) to do some soul searching without the distractions of daily life.

And so I made plans. Although the course of the plan did end up shifting and maybe one day I’ll feel it is placed upon my heart to dive into deeper details, just know that I was meant to be in the very place in time this past month. Something happened one day when I was driving home. I had knots lining my shoulder blades for the past month. There were over 15 spots that ached daily. It was excruciating. I was told I had a build up of lactic acid.

Three Heel Clicks - Spending Time on My Purpose (15).jpg

As I am behind the steering wheel suddenly so many things in my heart, soul and mind came together and I realized I’ve been carrying around the weight of my past experiences. I also realized in this moment that every wrong choice, circumstance and event in my life led to the preparation of this moment where my purpose in life was revealed to me. Within 30 seconds my knots disappeared.

Three Heel Clicks - Spending Time on My Purpose (8).jpg

I awoke each morning this week with a peace I’ve never experienced before. The knots are still gone and my eyes shifted to focus on my purpose which has been known to me by Jesus. I prefer on this blog not to share religious or political viewpoints, but to make it a space to encourage you to live a better life.

What about you? Are you at a place in life where you are going through an unexplained internal struggle or spiritual warfare? Please share your experiences!

Houston Hotspots: Strawberry Picking at Atkinson Farms

Three Heel Clicks - Strawberry Picking at Atkinson's Farms (23).jpg

I’ve been dying to get over to pick fresh strawberries for some time now. Every Spring comes along yet I seem to miss making it to a berry farm. Well, this year it was highly prioritized and I’m lucky in the fact that I live about 30 minutes from one.

Visiting a strawberry farm is a way you can show local farmers and business owners support. I am a HUGE plant lover. I eat a primarily plant based diet which includes mostly vegetables and fruits. Finding good quality locally sourced produce aids immensely in providing my body with the right nutrients and vitamins. I try to shop as often as I can at a local farmer’s market. When I have the opportunity to go pick my own fruit that’s even better! Local farms support our economy and farming is HUGE in Texas. I mentioned last month in this post just how the Houston Rodeo supports kids by giving them scholarships for agriculture and livestock.

Since I knew we would be getting down on our hands and knees I wore a durable pair of dark overalls. I am an overall freak! I love them. They are easy to dress up or down. They are perfect for days at the farm or a visit to a Northern climate. I’ve worn them so often when we’ve gone to snowy places. I prefer a pair that is fitted with a skinny pant leg so that I don’t get engulfed in fabric or look sloppy. I also look for stretch in all of my denim since I had the feeling of a restricted pair of jeans. You can find several options under $75 here, here and here.

Another garden and farm must have includes weather proof shoes. I wear my Hunter boots all year round. From hiking at Cascade Caverns to trekking through a foot deep of snow they are such a staple. If you are looking for a new pair of gardening shoes consider a pair of clogs, low boots or tall boots depending on how much protection you need from mud.

If you are local to Houston and want to visit Atkinson Farms they are open all week long starting at 10am. The property is beautiful and centrally located just north of Houston in Spring, TX. When you arrive you can stop at the store and grab a bucket ($1.25 and you get to keep it). Then, you head out and pick strawberries at your own leisure for $3.99 a pound! A bucket holds approximately 3-4 lbs of strawberries. There are no fees to enter and if you go on a week day you’ll find you have plenty of time to pick strawberries without fighting a crowd.

Houston Hotspots: The Whimsy World Part 3

Three Heel Clicks - Houston Hotspots - The Whimsy World Part 3 (9).jpg

Being an art lover and painter myself I was incredibly inspired by Shelbi Nicole’s colorful exhibit on display at The Art District Gallery right outside of downtown Houston. Painting, drawing and creating has been a part of me since I can remember. I’m constantly on the hunt for murals around the city (and world) to share with you all as a background for fashion looks. This is the third and final post on The Whimsy World (read part 1 and part 2 for more information and other parts of this exhibit). Note:; The exhibit is on display through the end of this month so if you want to attend you need to get tickets ASAP (you can do so here).

I mentioned in a previous post about the Beyonce inspired bathroom. I had to share this mirror selfie with the words “I woke up like this” for you all. Every inch of the space is covered in art around the exhibit including the bathroom/dressing room. If you are an influencer, photographer or blogger this is a perfect place for a quick outfit change! The walls are lined in black and white wallpaper complete with images of Beyonce. What a special touch! So often, bathrooms and dressing areas are overlooked within spaces whether it be an exhibit or even a restaurant bathroom. Well, look no further! This bathroom is full of glamour inspired images and quotes that will surely inspire a feeling of fabulous as soon as you walk in.

My only regret was not making it to the exhibit before Valentine’s Day to share today’s post with you. However, the outfit I have on today is an easy one to recreate. I wore a simple split flutter sleeve dress from Cotton On (an staple brand in my closet). The dress is made out of a jersey knit and looks great dressed up or down. I found this version with longer sleeves on sale for $60 if you are in the market for a cute red dress.Y ou can swap out the heels for a pair of ballet flats for a casual look. Although I cannot find this one online (even though it was purchased last month) I have rounded up a few more options for you guys in the Shop the Post feature located above and at the bottom of today’s post.

Since this is an art exhibit I felt a beret was the only appropriate hat choice. Berets immediately rouse a french feeling and are more versatile than you may think. You can see a few other beret inspired looks here, here and here - dressed up for the office, dressed down to play or just a simple weekend look. To keep my outfit from looking to holiday like I added white accessories to transition from Winter to Spring. White pumps, earrings and bags are also staples in my closet. When you add white to a bold color like red, pink or blue it helps the colors really pop! Don’t put those red items away yet! You can easily wear them all Spring and Summer long if you pair them with lighter colors.

What is your favorite way to wear red in the Spring?

Small Town Charm: Idaho Springs, Colorado

Three Heel Clicks - Small Town Charm - Idaho Springs - Colorado (22).jpg

Idaho Springs is a little mountain town outside west of Denver Colorado where you can find one of the best breakfasts and sweet little streets lined with antique stores. Christmas week this year we spent at a friend’s lodge in Colorado doing so many fun outdoor activities like snowboarding in Winter Park and even cutting our own little Christmas tree down. I’ve visited Colorado twice before but this trip was so different from previous ones. Since we were staying with a local friend we were able to try out all of the best local places! The nearest city to his lodge is Idaho Springs so on Christmas Eve we all loaded into our car and headed there for a little breakfast before finishing our last minute shopping.

Marion’s of the Rockies was a diner that didn’t disappoint. It’s one of those places you can order coffee without frills and get a plate full of veggie loaded omelettes. It was an amazing home cooked tasting breakfast and kept us full well into the afternoon when we decided to go sledding. We ordered pancakes, omelettes and filled up on orange juice. Afterwards, we strolled for a few minutes popping in and out of antique stores and touring the little town tucked away in the mountains.

I wore this puffer jacket (this one is identical and on sale for $50) which is such a perfect winter item and really versatile. Today I paired it with grey socks and a soft gray sweater, red cardigan (an absolute favorite item and it’s on sale for $24) then added a pair of boots with red laces that pop (found this pair that’s similar with red laces!) ! I love the way the pale pink softens the reds in this outfit. Also, you may have noticed this red plaid scarf has been constantly worn over the past few weeks. I picked it up right before this trip and wore it all the way through my trip to California the following week.

Scoping out story book settings like Idaho Springs is such a passion of mine. Part of it is because I live in a big city and find the smaller towns have a sort of charm the city just doesn’t provide. People know each other, businesses have been around for years and these are the places where I find the best vintage and antique items.

Three Heel Clicks - Small Town Charm - Idaho Springs - Colorado (23).jpg

Idaho Springs has a unique way of displaying Christmas lights. In Texas, most of our lights are all in white for public spaces. In Idaho Springs, the streets are lined with colorful lights that contrast against the white snow. We were lucky in the fact that throughout the trip the weather was just beautiful and we were able to spend so much time outside without fighting icy streets. I’ve traveled to Tahoe a few times and the roads are so much more narrow and the drop offs are much steeper. I like driving through (well, riding shotgun since I’m world’s worst driver) the roads in Colorado because they are built for the crazy weather that comes there way. They are much wider than in Northern California! I highly recommend renting a luxury vehicle like we did (we picked a compact BMW SUV) with heated seats. Heated seats make allllll of the difference in cold weather.

What are some ways you bear the cold weather?
