Floral Romper

Effortless is how I would describe this look. This one from LC Lauren Conrad's collection was actually purchased through one of Kohl's amazing sales with Kohl's cash. I purchased a few Christmas gifts from Kohl's over Thanksgiving and the result was this and an adorable dress seen here. I really have fallen in love with what Lauren Conrad has produced lately. Her clothes are whimsical, feminine and beautiful. The color palette includes soft neutrals with a mix of pastels.

Houston has some beautiful courtyards throughout the city. I posted some pictures back in the Fall of the Galleria and one of the classical gardens, but here is another example of a few gems found downtown. One of the things blogging has really forced me to do is to look for new spots to visit. I purposefully seek out new scenes, parks and restaurants to share on my blog.

As much as I love Winter, it's refreshing sometimes that Houston gets such warm weather all year round. Yes, we do pull out our coats for a few weeks a year, but most of the year you do not need a heavy jacket. I thought this outfit would make some nice inspiration for Spring this year.

I'm so happy platform sandals are back. Being that I barely clear five feet tall, it's nice to get a little height. I like the color of these and plan to wear them later in the year with full skirts for a more ladylike look. Today though, I went super casual and wore with my classic Michael Kors crossbody.

"One step at a time is good walking."

Nothing beats spending time with your family, friends and pets. Paws was my dog from college who now lives at my parents house. They say that people are either "dog" people or "cat" people. I've always been a dog person. They are so loyal, loving and can be the best companion during tough times. Every time I visit my parents, I make it a point to take Paws on long walks.

I've talked a lot over the past few months about the increase in walking I've done. Walking has been said to reduce cardiac stress and lower blood pressure. There is something meditative about getting outdoors and take a few strides. I started off small by just taking 15 minutes every day at lunch. Then, on the weekends I would go for longer periods of time. After a few months I was up to 45 minute walks during my lunch break and 2-3 hour periods on the weekends.

You may wonder... how does she find the time? Well, that's exactly what I do - I find the time. I've never been much of a TV watcher and during the daylight, I try to spend as much of my time outside as possible. It wasn't something that happened overnight, I just found the more I walked, the more I wanted to walk. Suddenly 3 miles was easy and my body just sort of meta-morphed.  It became leaner as a result. My stress levels were manageable and I slowly started making more and more room in my schedule. Now I look forward to rising early on the weekends to get an hour at sunrise in.

Feminine Neutrals

I found this lovely neutral lace dress from LC Lauren Conrad's collection and thought it would make a perfect addition for holiday parties, work or pretty much any occasion. The color was the perfect shade of taupe. Taupe is not a color I usually one I gravitate towards - it has just a little too much gray in it for my taste. But, the fit of dress was like a glove. I thought it would be perfect to wear with my pale pink bag from Ted Baker.

I used to work in Downtown Houston a few times a week since I had clients there, but haven't been as much since I transferred to a new job that has me in the Energy Corridor on the west side of town. I love it when I have the chance to go downtown. There is something about seeing all the men dressed in suits, couriers on bikes and women having brunch on the patio... it's a completely different vibe from other parts of town. Downtown there is this energy and the sight of 75 story buildings gives you a feeling unlike others.

I love to travel and love the outdoors, but since I was a little girl I always dreamed of living in a big city. I I wanted to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of all of the people and business. I knew living in a big city was for me. Houston is a great place and there are so many different flavors of life here. I absolutely love being a part of this place and look forward to discovering new places and new scenes. Most of these photographs were taken near Market Square Park. I usually park near there since it's right off of Louisiana Street which many of my old clients reside. It's a pretty little area with a floral tiled fountain and in the very middle  you can pick up yummy giro's from Nikko Nikko.

I'm working on an upcoming series about Traveling Your City - but in the meantime you can find several of my snaps on Instagram with the hashtag #travelyourcity and #threeheelclickstravel. I'm hoping to have some new stuff posted at the early part of the year on this topic. Travel is something so near and dear to my heart. One of my biggest goals for 2016 is to explore more, even if it's just here in Houston.

Red Rain Boots

"She usually loved the sun to reign, but today she enjoyed the surprise of rain."

I spend a lot of time outside. I mean alot. Because I work at a computer most days, I try to get out everyday at lunch and on the weekends I walk for miles. Since I started spending more time outdoors, I realized that my wardrobe needed some shifting. The biggest change? Footwear. Not only do I have to be prepared for dirt, but we get so much rain because we are near the coast.

For Christmas, I received a pair of red rain boots and a big golf size red umbrella. As I continue to edit my closet, I realized how much I really love the color red. My favorite color is blush,  but a pop of red is classic and bold. I thought it would be fun to share two outfits today with my new red rain boots.

I also wanted to share how a classic pea coat works with two looks. Both outfits share gingham, but I used the print in different ways. First, with a scarf over a simple navy blouse and leggings. The second look sports a gingham button up underneath a puffy vest.

I've talked about dressing in 3 colors a few times in the past. Both looks I really tried to edit down to just three hues. That way, I can play with textures and prints without the outfits looking overly busy. Another thing I really like about dressing in three's, is that packing for a quick weekend trip is a breeze. I've found that shoes can take up a lot of space. I could throw a simple pair of ballet flats in or a pair of heels and take both outfits from outdoor to an evening outfit by removing the puffy vest and adding a clutch.

I spent New Year's weekend going on several long walks with my dog. It's nice to get out in the fresh cool crisp air during Winter. Usually this area is humid all summer, so I welcome the winter weather and relish getting to bundle up. Our winters are really short and it's nice to actually feel like it's January.

I curated a bunch of options below for you to browse if you are interested in finding options similar to what's shown here. All are weather durable and comfortable - my number one rule with being outside is to make sure you are ready to face the climate and can walk for miles.

New Beginnings

StyleCrystal JacksonComment

I hope you all had a wonderful NYE last night! I wanted to kick off the first of the year with a casual look. I am still ironing out some of my goals for 2016 (more about this later on this month), but one of the things I have as a top priority is narrowing down my wardrobe. I've lost a few pounds over the past few months through changing my lifestyle choices and I think it's time to sort through old items. I decided to take a different approach than I have in the past - if it's not something that screams "me" it's being donated or sold.

That concept lead me to think about what kind of style I really am. What do I really want my wardrobe to look like? I'm a little bit feminine, preppy, but with a whimsical twist. I love floaty layers and structured pieces. I love blush, camel, light blue, and navy. I like to play with texture and mix something masculine with feminine. You'll be seeing a whole lot of changes on my social media over the next few months to include a reorganization of my Pinterest boards/pins.

For the first post of the year, I thought I would share something that really felt like a perfect mix of what my style truly is... I wear dresses more than pants, and love boots. These boots were bought when I traveled to Lake Tahoe a few years back. I needed something warm and cozy at the time. I knew as soon as I laid eyes on them they would be a classic staple for years to come. Our temperatures dropped over the past week, and so they emerged from hiding in the back of my closet.

I wore a classic button up from Banana Republic underneath a simple striped dress. It's preppy, classic but still fun! A structured purse and soft curls were the perfect touches to this look. A good way to take a summery dress into the Fall or Winter is to layer tights and a long-sleeved shirt underneath. The outfit is comfortable and still appropriate enough for a day at the office or lunch with the girls.

I love getting feedback from all of you and want to hear more about what you would like to see in the coming months. Feel free to leave a comment, shoot me an email or send me a message over any social media platform. Your comments are dear to me and I really take them into consideration with future posts.
